From notes by aunt Lilian…
..My mother was very ambitious for her family and a very charitable person She raised her family of four plus five or six orphans from what was then called the Shelter. An incident that I never forgot was during the influenza epidemic of 1917-1918. Mother heard that Mrs Félix St-Pierre was very sick. She and my father travelled through the bush to visit. What they saw appalled them. They came back and explained to us kids that Mrs St-Pierre was very sick, lying on a pallet of straw in the corner of her small house, her children had nothing to wear but little undershirts. They were going to gather some of our clothes for the children plus all the bed clothes we could spare. Mrs St-Pierre died shortly after.
